Prepare for Homework for IB Program

Homework, who in the world wants to do homework? Well unfortunately IB students have to do an insane amount of it so here are some tips to prepare for it.

Steps

Find some time to relax. Relaxing your body and mind should be one of your priorities right after school. This can be by just relaxing and maybe taking a 20 minute nap, or can be accomplished by joining a sport or exercising. Make sure you are not straining your eyesight, doing a lot of homework usually involves doing a lot of reading. Take the time you need, but be realistic. Most people need around half an hour to completely relax, while others can get going in 10 minutes. Do not take more than 45 minutes, unless you are exercising. Yoga is a great idea, as you can do it in almost any situation and it doesn't take that long.

Start your homework. You can start on the subject you hate the most, or you can go by the order your classes are in, but you need to find a pattern to follow when doing homework everyday. Having a routine helps.

Be prepared. Have index cards ready if you are doing a research paper, a computer, etc. for each assignment.

Be neat. For each class, or if you have several large assignments for the same class, create a different stack of materials you need and rotate them into your workspace in order to free up your hands and in order to not have too many objects cluttering your area and getting in the way.

Tips

  • Do something you enjoy before starting homework, play video games, play an instrument, talk to friends, just something that you enjoy doing.
  • While relaxing don't think about your homework, the time will come when you need to do that.
  • Take a five minute break every forty five minutes. Set a timer to ensure you do not spend more than this. Do some stretches, go outside for some fresh air or have a drink of water.
  • While relaxing eat a high protein snack so you will have energy to do your homework.
  • Do not do anything that will anger you while you are relaxing.
  • Unless you need it for your homework, switch off your mobile phone and computer and, if possible, leave them outside the room.
